  • These are the General Guidelines for Ecstatic Dance Toronto dance events.  We ask that dancers please review them in order for all to fully enjoy and maintain the safety of the dance.
    • You are are free to move however you wish in honour of what your body wants.
      • Letting go of esthetics and expectations and journeying within allows our body to just be in whatever is happening.  This is a safe, sacred and judgement free space.
    • Dancing is consensual with mindfulness and respect towards others.
      • All kinds of dance and movement take place on the dance floor, alone and in partnership(s).  Dance with others is by consent and with care for the safety, boundaries and wellbeing of others.  We ask that dancers communicate clearly their desires and limits, paying attention and respecting those of other dancers in the community.
      • Some examples of a dancer giving consent to dance:
        • Affirmative / smiling eye contact
        • Open and engaging body language and / or playfulness.
        • Affirming head nodding.
        • Positive pointing or inviting hand and arm gesturing.
        • Attempts at appropriate hand, arm or body contact
      • Some examples of a dancer declining to or ending a dance:

        • Eye contact indicating a lack of willingness, desire or possibly upset.
        • Dancing with eyes closed in a clearly internal/inward dance.
        • Negative sideways shaking or moving of the head
        • A verbal “no” (whether audible or not)
        • Non responsive, non-engaging or closed body language.
        • Non-affirming or refusing hand or arm gesturing.
        • The dancer moves from their dance with you to another without including you.
        • The dancer bows, gestures with prayer hands, waves, blows a kiss, or otherwise provides a symbolic way of parting.
      • Any issues or concerns related to a dance with another that cannot be handled directly for whatever reason, should be brought to the attention of the host or greeter.

Dancer communication (similar to The Move) ?
    • We dance with bare feet
      • One of the most sensitive of and determining parts for the rest our anatomy; feet go mostly unnoticed and ignored, confined within the limited space and comfort of shoes.  Feeling ourselves fully begins with our relationship to the ground. We ask that you put nothing between your feet and the ground.
    • No experience needed
    • Dancers of all ages, genders, cultures, sizes, etc  are welcome (children are welcome when accompanied by an adult)
    • We request no talking on the dance floor
    • Cell phones and cameras are not permitted in the dance space.
    • We are an Alchohol-free and recreational drug-free dance space.
      • The dance experience is about going into what is there and allowing it to be, regardless of what it is.  Tapping into the authentic truth of ourselves allows us to bring it out in its fullness. We ask that dancers bring an unaltered state of consciousness so that there are no layers concealing the truth, within which is the golden discovery of healing, development, joy and expansion.
    • Wear comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement.
    • Bring plenty of water to drink
  • Policy on Inappropriate Behaviour
    • There is no tolerance for harassment, assault, abuse, or the deliberate disrespect of another’s boundaries.  Examples of this are non-consensual and inappropriate touching or grabbing, sexual gesturing, insulting or humiliating, taunting or threatening.  No such behavior is permitted at Ecstatic Dance Toronto for any reason whatsoever, whether physical or verbal.
    • We take the integrity and safety of our space very seriously. Dancers that do not respect this policy will be asked to leave, banned, and possibly reported to authorities as necessary.

  • Any Concerns
    • If you have any personal concerns, concerns for others or any aspect of the space, these may be brought to the attention of the host or the greeter who are there to assist and hold space for any arising issue.

          • The 2 hour dance journey begins at 7:30 with a 30 min warm up.
          • Our front door locks at approximately 8:00 pm for opening circle and a period of laying relaxation, reopening again at between 8:10 – 8:15.

The journey continues slowly following meditation, building gradually to an energetic peak, descending back into a meditative space and ending at 9:30.
